The Hidden Costs of Insomnia

Insomnia isn’t just about lost hours of sleep—it can affect every part of your life. Up to one-third of adults experience insomnia at some point, and for 4% to 22%, it becomes a chronic issue. When you’re not sleeping well, everything feels harder. Your energy, mood, and health all take a hit, making it tough to show up as your best self.

The Real-Life Impacts of Insomnia Include:

  • Daily Struggles: Staying alert, focusing, or completing tasks can feel impossible, leading to less productivity.

  • Emotional Strain: Poor sleep increases feelings of stress, frustration, and irritability, making it harder to manage your day.

  • Health Risks: Chronic insomnia raises the risk of conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and a weakened immune system.

  • Missed Work: People with insomnia lose an average of 11 workdays a year due to fatigue, costing them about $2,280 annually.

  • Financial Stress: Beyond missed work, medical expenses and reduced productivity add up, costing individuals and the U.S. economy billions each year. For individuals, insomnia can lead to lost income or, in severe cases, disability claims.

The good news? Insomnia doesn’t have to run your life. With the right tools and support, you can take back control of your nights—and your days.
